About the exhibition

Congo, Close to Home brings together seven photographers who live in Goma. Their work records a city living through conflict, while also following the daily experiences that continue around it: music, performance, fashion and community life.

Seen together, these photographs offer an account of Goma from people who call it home.

Goma is a city of more than a million people on Lake Kivu, under a volcano and, since January 2025, under armed occupation. The photographs show the war and the life that continues around it — weddings, markets, dance, football — alongside displacement and loss. We are showing them in Accra because Congo is not far away: from one African city to another, this is close to home.
