Archivist (NSS)

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated graduate to join our team as an Archivist. This National Service role offers an exceptional opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of archival management within an educational institution. As an Archivist, you will collaborate with a small, dynamic team and contribute to the organization, preservation, and accessibility of our valuable archival materials.

Responsibilities:

  1. Organize and catalogue archival materials: Work closely with the archivist and team members to arrange, describe, and catalogue a diverse range of archival materials, including documents, photographs, audiovisual materials, and digital assets. Ensure accurate and consistent metadata and indexing to enhance discoverability and accessibility.

  2. Preservation and conservation: Assist in implementing preservation strategies and techniques to ensure archival materials' long-term stability and protection. Follow best practices for handling, storage, and preservation of physical and digital materials.

  3. Research and analysis: Conduct thorough research and analysis of archival materials to support exhibitions, publications, educational programs, and research inquiries. Assist in identifying and selecting materials for specific projects and initiatives.

  4. Digitization initiatives: Support ongoing digitization efforts by assisting in the digitization of physical materials and ensuring the quality control of digital assets. Help maintain digital repositories and databases.

  5. Reference and access services: Assist in providing reference and access services to researchers, students, and staff. Respond to inquiries, retrieve requested materials, and assist with on-site research visits.

  6. Collaboration and cross-departmental initiatives: Collaborate with other departments and team members on projects and initiatives that require archival expertise. Participate in meetings, discussions, and planning sessions to contribute archival perspectives and insights.

This National Service opportunity is available to candidates who have either graduated or are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Archival Studies, Library Science, Information Studies, History, or a related field.
