DIKAN is looking for an experienced and self-motivated Librarian to join our team. As a librarian, you will perform various duties such as cataloguing library resources, maintaining library records, managing budgets and planning book purchases. In addition, you'll be involved in the research and selection of informational resources, organising them, and teaching people how to use them effectively. The ideal candidate should also possess in-depth knowledge of library database systems, archiving and excellent communication and organisational skills.
Key Responsibilities
Collect and catalogue library resources, including books, films, and publications. Maintain library records and ensure it is updated, performing regular audits of the information and inventory on file.
Educate patrons on how to search for information using the library databases properly. Help people locate reference and leisure reading materials.
Oversee the check-out process for books and other resource materials.
Ensure the library meets the needs of precise users, including postgraduate students and disabled students.
Publish and update archives and content on the library’s website (e.g. book summaries, reviews, blog, etc.)
Oversee the library to ensure cleanliness, order, and protection of the library’s resources
In partnership with the community manager and other relevant staff, develop an annual literary promotion calendar and communicate this to the team.
Assist in organising and delivering relevant community events and activities such as children’s storytelling, author readings, book sales, etc.
Manage library budgeting and billing for new equipment.
Coordinate the Department in creating, developing, and implementing collections management policies; archives procedures; procedures manual; departmental goals and preservation planning.
Support the designing of visual arts curriculum that achieves Dikan's objectives in the community and beyond using library resources.
Requirements And Competencies
At least three years of experience as a librarian. Experience in people management and supervision. Excellent IT skills and knowledge of library databases.
Outstanding organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to design, organise and implement creative educational activities within an allocated budget.
Excellent organisational and time management skills to prioritise and manage multiple and competing work tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines.
Extensive knowledge of local and global educational standards and regulations in library science.
Years of Archives experience are required, preferably in an educational or museum setting.
Familiarity with information management systems. A patient and friendly personality.
A degree in Library Science, a Master’s in Library Science, or Information Management is a plus.
