Advocacy & Community 

We exist to advance awareness for social issues, human rights, and education. We support content creators, activists, educators, and change-makers on the front lines of social change in Africa by amplifying the impact of their work to inspire activism, compassion, and social transformation. Additionally, we aim to improve collaborations among Africans to tell and distribute stories about Africa. Furthermore, we hope to train, mentor, and financially support visual storytellers in exploring various innovative tools and ideas

Partnerships

We strive to champion collaborations and partnerships with art and creative institutions, educational institutions, festivals, and cultural organizations in Africa and around the world to promote African narratives. We are open to all forms of partnerships.

Exhibition

Dikan will constantly evolve as we discover new and innovative ways to shift story, picture and film showcases from traditional exhibition spaces toward less formal and more open outdoor public spaces. We strongly believe that African stories need to be more accessible, reaching more people and connecting storytellers to various communities in Africa. All exhibitions will be open to every storyteller who desires a platform, big or small, new or old. We seek to organize annual photo festivals, travelling exhibitions, and other sessional exhibitions at Dikan center.

Education

The core value of Dikan is informed by visual education and community building. We hope to equip African visual storytellers with access to free visual education programs, tools, funding and resources. Through the Dikan Lab , innovative storytelling ideas, curricula, and projects will be developed to meet the needs of photographers and filmmakers. Through photo library activities, after-school programs, screenings, community events, workshops, residencies, and more, we will provide Africans a home where people of different backgrounds and expertise levels can learn together and be inspired. We will continue to promote, mentor, and educate through flagship programs such as Teen Photo, Dikan Residence, Photo & Film Workshops, Girls for Camera, Portfolio Review, Dikan Photo festival, and others.
